“Erotic Faces” is an ongoing project started in late 2016. It was created after years of experimenting with different techniques and styles since the beginning of my artistic career. Deformism, as present in the project, is a central theme of my artistic work, and especially in the portraits of animals and people. I first started experimenting with deformism in 2004, in a series that had a defining impact on my creative and artistic life.“Erotic Faces” is a series of images of portraits of people with deformed, androgynous, and metamorphic features. They are teeming with sexual/erotic energy and it is easy to spot phallic symbols. Flowing lines, soft edges, and gazes portrayed in the series show various stages of ecstasy and excitation. What I seek to create with this project is to visualize an alternative reality, and yet one not so different than the one we live in today – one bombarded with sexually charged images in media. I wanted to show the erotic images in a direct and obvious way, without taboo or prejudice. The surrealistic series is created with mixed media and a variety of techniques – watercolor, acrylic, pastel, ink on paper, and soon to be added – oil on paper.
Extravaganza is my latest series created in 2016 with oil on cardboard. The series generally depicts portraits clothed in bizarre costumes with postures and scenes reminiscent of the Renaissance.
